Dr Alan Guilfoyle

Position: Practice Founder/Owner/Partner

Qualifications: BVSc QDAH

Dr  Alan “Guillie” has dedicated his professional life to the Clermont Vet Surgery and its clients.  He graduated from the University of Queensland in 1971and is passionate about all aspects of veterinary science and is a widely respected and well known advocate for animal health.  It’s no wonder he was recognised by the Australian Cattle Vets Association as their Bovine Practitioner of the Year for 2014. If he is not in the clinic you can find Guillie tending to the “flock on the block”, his little piece of Central Queensland paradise and home to his prized steers and bullocks. In addition to his other accomplishments, Guillie is a marriage celebrant, a lay minister, community representative, former representative of Queensland Racing, musician, actor, educator, philosopher, devoted husband, loving father of 4 and an absolutely adored grandfather of 7.

Dr Tess Salmond

Position: Practice Owner/Partner

Qualifications: BVSc (Hons)

Dr Tess always knew she wanted to be a vet – it was what she was bred to do! Graduating from University of QLD with first class honours in 2004 she has enjoyed a stimulating and varied career thus far. Her work has taken her to all corners of the state, from Weipa to Charleville, to Brisbane to Richmond, she has a deep passion for the bush and prides herself on providing the best possible veterinary service to rural communities. Tess married a local boy John Salmond in 2012 and they split their time between Mt McConnel and Clermont Vet Surgery. Tess and John bought into the clinic in 2014 and are now partners with Tess’s father Guillie. John and Tess welcomed their daughter Alana Merle into the world in 2015 and she is often seen tearing around the vet surgery Tess's two other loves of her life – her cavalier king charles spaniel "Izzy"and her stockhorse mare "Amber". John and Tess added to their family with the arrival of their son Peter Gordon John in June 2018. On her days off, Tess can be found helping out at Mt McConnel or at a campdraft with John.

Dr Caroline Spelta

Position: ​Senior Associate Veterinarian

Qualifications: BVSc (Hons) MANZCVS (Medicine of Horses) Dip ECEIM (Diplomat of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine).

Caroline came to work for us in December 2015 after working at Townsville Vet Clinic for almost 15 years. She has been working as a senior equine practitioner since 2009. Caroline has extensive interests in all things equine - in particular gastrointestinal, endocrine, neonatal & opthalmic disorders; critical care for all horses; ultrasonography; reproduction and poor performance. She has also been involved in developing recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of PPID in Australia and New Zealand. Caroline graduated with honours in 2001 from the University of Queensland, acheived her membership in Equine Medicine with the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 2006 and successfully completed her specialty training in Equine Medicine in 2012. In February 2018, she sat exams in Germany and was awarded her Dip ECEIM, making her an internationally qualified European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine. She has lectured at both local and national veterinary conferences on Pars Pituitary Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID- Equine Cushing's Disease), Foal Disorders, Fluid Therapy and Critical Care Nursing.Caroline is also an adjunt lecturer at James Cook University and has been involved in the teaching and examination of 4th and 5th year Bachelor of Veterinary Science Students. In her spare time, Caroline can be found hanging out with her husband Kent, working on her latest masterpiece in her garden, and taking her three children to various horse and other sporting events.

Dr Brendan Brieffies

Position: ​Associate Veterinarian

Qualifications: BVSc (Hons)

Brendan grew up in the Blue Mountain area between Mackay and Nebo on a cattle property. He completed his five years of studying for his Bachelor of Veterinary Science at James Cook University at Townsville in 2015. Brendan joined us at the Clermont Veterinary Surgery not long after graduation and has fitted in very well into the practice and the community, He enjoys all aspect of veterinary science, but his main love is the extensive large animal work on cattle properties in the district. Brendan has obtained certification as an accredited ACV Bull Check Bull tester (for breeding soundness evaluation) and as an accredited ACV Pregcheck tester (for pregnancy testing cows). When on his rare days off, Brendan can be found giving his pushbike a work out, helping out on his parents properties or doing improvements on his own block just out of Clermont and tending to his beloved brahman cows.  

Dr Max Woods

Position: ​Associate Veterinarian

Qualifications: BVSc

Max joined Clermont Vets in September 2017 and hails from a sheep and beef cattle property situated in the Bylong Valley which is in the Central Tablelands region of NSW. He graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga in 2017. Max is passionate about all fields of veterinary work - from cats and dogs all the way through to extensive beef cattle work. He has a very keen interest in equine medicine and reproduction. On his days off, Max can be found playing rugby union for the Clermont Bushpigs, training his horses or socialising down at the Commercial Hotel with his friends.    

Dr Dee-Ann Sheehy BVSc

Position: ​Senior Associate Veterinarian

Qualifications: BVSc (Hons)

Dee-Ann graduated from the University of Queensland in 1997 and has worked all over Australia, the UK, Ireland and New Zealand. Her career started in Mackay where she worked for three years before she caught the travel bug and she spent the next 16 years traversing the countryside doing locums. Luckily for us, she has finally put down roots in the Clermont district marrying a local lad in July 2016. Dee-Ann enjoys the variety of mixed animal practice and is smitten the Clermont region. Having travelled far and wide and worked in more than 30 clinics during her career, her opinion is that Clermont Veterinary Surgery has a great balance of interesting cases, awesome work mates and fantastic countryside.
